Nuts

When I grew up we had nuts at Christmastime. I have no idea why that was the season for nuts at our house, but it was.
The cool thing about nuts in those days is that we had to crack them with specially made nut crackers. The challenge was to dig the meat out of shells that stubbornly held onto their gift with a skinny pointy tipped metal tool that worked perfectly well.  My parents taught me all the different types of nuts. I knew them by their shells: almonds, filberts, pecans, brazil nuts, cashews (still my all time fave).
Lately I've been snacking on nuts on almost daily. I buy them shelled and salted in a can. Because there are several kinds all jumbled together, unless I already knew which was which, I wouldn't.
They taste great. But there's no fun.

I have a cashew addiction. It usually starts around Christmas and ends around Valentine's day. Go figure.
