A Snippet of Carefree Childhood Memories - Bike Riding

Sometime in the 60’s I had a beautiful ‘grown up’ bicycle. I was about 11 when my wonderful parents gifted it to me. Or was it Santa?
My bike was flashy emerald green trimmed in shiny chrome. Around that same time, Barbie dolls
entered the world.
For at least one year around my age of 11 to 12, my cousin Diane and I would ride our bikes for hours throughout our suburban neighborhood, pretending to be all grown up. Up and down many streets, our bikes were cars. And we were Barbie and/or her friends.
Totally silly, I know. But true.
I have no idea what we talked about. I only remember the wind in my hair as we shared dreams of brilliant futures.
I often wonder how many children today have the opportunity to be silly and carefree with a friend? Do they have time to dream of a beautiful future? Who is safe enough to bike ride for hours with no concern of stranger danger?
